Today we listened to several FOAs. Then you had time to work on Persepolis for Wednesday.
Due Wednesday: "Persepolis" and "The Letter" plus your journal. Revised and final Written Tasks are due to turnitin.com by Friday Jan. 26. Make them good!!! Today in period 1 we finished discussing "The Bicycle."
Then in table groups you worked on analyzing and discussing a page from "The Water Cell." If you missed class today you should reread and do a close analysis of the chapter on your own. Today in period 2 we looked at how the Persian miniature has influenced Satrapi's style. Then we moved on to discuss "The Bicycle" and began to discuss "The Water Cell." See above if you were absent. HW: The next reading ("Persepolis" and "The Letter," 2 chapters) is due on Wednesday for Period 1 and on Tuesday (because you don't have as many FOAs) for Period 2. One journal entry is also due for this chunk of reading. Remember that your revised and final Written Task is due to turnitin.com on Friday Jan. 26. Period 1:
Today we read an article on representations of Muhammad in art. If you missed class today, read the article by clicking on this link: Have pictures of Muhammad always been forbidden? We drew connections between what we learned in the article and Persepolis. Then we watched two videos about Zoroastrianism and Nouruz, Persian New Year, to add context to our understanding of Persepolis page 7. Watch and take notes on the videos through the links below. What is Zoroastrianism? What is Nowruz? We looked at the first part of the Persepolis notes powerpoint and worked on analyzing 3 figures from chapters 1 & 2 for graphic and literary elements. Due tomorrow: Read through The Water Cell and complete journal. Period 2: Today we reviewed Graphic Novel conventions (see shared PowerPoint). You worked on identifying examples of these from the text. Then we talked about what we have learned so far about Marji, her family, and her society from the novel. Due tomorrow: Read through The Water Cell and complete journal. Today we read "About the Author", an interview with Marjane Satrapi, and discussed it in groups of 4. In first period students had the novel Persepolis checked out to them. If you were absent you should read this on your own (shared in Google Drive).
I highly recommend that you consider purchasing your own copy of this novel, as you will be examined on it in May in the IB Paper 2 exam, and you can't write in the novel unless you purchase it! |
