Wednesday I checked your second text type.
I provided you with a mystery text type (an opinion column) which you then annotated with an eye to analysis of the "Big 5" aspects. See Documents page to print out. We talked about whether bias is always bad, analyzed the structure of the opinion piece and the rhetorical devices she's using, and talked about the New York Times as a news source. On Thursday we finished up this discussion and read the article "Tips for Writing an Op-Ed piece," which might come in handy for completing a Written Task 1. Then we read and discussed the article "Defining Implicit Bias." Last but not least, you were asked to tape the two images into your comp book or spiral and "Notice what you notice," annotating the images. Then, you were asked to answer the question: So what? Write a fully developed paragraph in your comp book/spiral discussing the 3 texts (the 2 sets of images and the "Defining Bias" article) in light of what you noticed.
